To eat the famous holy sweet, given as an offering at one of India's holiest Hindu shrines, Tirumala Tirupati, you don't need to shell out a lot of money.
The #temple in southern Andhra Pradesh state provides two laddoos at a subsidised cost of 10 rupees ($0.15; £0.11) each, and customers are allowed to buy another two at 25 rupees each.
But "allowed" is the key word here.

The #samosa is first mentioned in literature by the Persian historian Abul-Fazl Beyhaqi, writing in the 11th Century.
He describes a dainty delicacy, served as a snack in the great courts of the mighty Ghaznavid empire. The fine pastry was filled with minced meats, nuts and dried fruit and then fried till the pastry was crisp.

A "vegetarian" gene may have evolved amongst groups of people who have historically eaten less meat.
A team at Cornell University describes the genetic variation in a study published in Molecular Biology and Evolution -- a variation that they say has "evolved in populations that have eaten a plant-based diet over hundreds of generations". That includes areas of India, Africa and East Asia.
